Perched hang up on a steep and rocky slope the elevated spaces, frame broad views of the Pacific coastline from Caloundra to Coolum, My Ninderry and rich farm land in the valley beneath the site. It is a long thin house for a couple which steps down along the slope and all spaces open to Northen decks, Winter sun and cooling North easterly breezes. To the south, as the site drops away dramatically, it feels like being in a tree house, with views framed between Eucalypt leaves and trunks towards the south. This natural vegetation was carefully retained to provide view framing opportunities and to provide a climatic buffer from the south easterly weather which can roar up the slope at times. The spaces are located on the three connected levels, stepping up the site and essentially the form is articulated by two pavilions under the one roof linked by a frameless glass bridge and open vertical circulation tower. The main living space are connected diction to the main bedroom zone above, whilst guest bedrooms and a more casual lounge space is located in the up hill pavilion. The house is made from steel timber and glass and is clad in a skin comprising a material palette of the rich hardwood timber screens, fibre coment sheet cladding, clear polycarbonate and corrugated iron.
