The Beitcher Residence integrates green technologies including direct gain passive solar heating in the form of Trombe walls made of 8 CMU block walls and earth berms. W3 Architects also incorporated the latest state of the art solar technologies including an active solar thermal water heating system that heats the domestic hot water, in-floor radiant heating, the pool, and the spa.

In the wake of reunification, the German government decided to relocate the capital to Berlin. The Netherlands, having sold their former embassy site after the war, was free to choose anew. Roland Ufer in Mitte, the oldest Berlin settlement, next to the (new) government district of their main trade partner, was ultimately preferred.

Following the slope of the land, the house is placed with optimum orientation to the North, and step down in the series of half levels. Thin and Linea, it uses the site topography to organise space into two distint living and sleeping pavilions,lightly connected by a transparent breezeway and stairwell. A skillion roof tilts up towards the highest point at the east, then twists to the Northease to maximize light abd breezes.Finishes include ab abundance of timber, glass,louvres and polycarbonate.
