The 4,300 square foot king Residence is located in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica. Situated on a gently sloping, wedge-shaped corner lot, the design rejects the standard public front yard and back yard typology, opting instead for a structure whose living spaces and bedrooms open onto a relatively large garden and patio that faces the public streets and surrounding houses. While this arrangement puts much of the familys communal and individual life on display, this is s positive feature for the Kings. The younger Kings delight in calling to their parent enjoy a heightened sense of neighborliness friends and neighbors drop in at all times. The house blurring of public or private boundaries reinforce the sense of community that they embrace and encourage.
