King House Architecture by John Friedman Architect and Friends in California
November 3rd, 2009
The 4,300 square foot king Residence is located in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica. Situated on a gently sloping, wedge-shaped corner lot, the design rejects the standard public front yard and back yard typology, opting instead for a structure whose living spaces and bedrooms open onto a relatively large garden and patio that faces the public streets and surrounding houses. While this arrangement puts much of the familys communal and individual life on display, this is s positive feature for the Kings. The younger Kings delight in calling to their parent enjoy a heightened sense of neighborliness friends and neighbors drop in at all times. The house blurring of public or private boundaries reinforce the sense of community that they embrace and encourage.
